 ScienceQuest Camp at Adventure Science Center provides a wide range of science enrichment programs for youth in grades K-9. Programs combine science, technology, engineering and math in ways that encourage kids to actively discover and examine concepts for themselves. We inspire a life-long passion for learning and teach kids creative problem-solving skills, teamwork, persistence and follow-through in a fun learning environment.

Regular camp hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with early drop-off and late pick-up available. Each day includes hands-on science activities, opportunities to make friends, a break for lunch, and Science Center exploration. Depending on the session, campers may also have the opportunity to hear from and talk with guest speakers, see planetarium shows and educational films, and take part in camp-wide projects.

BioKids
Campers who want to be a doctor or a veterinarian can get started right here learning about life and health, studying bones, using microscopes, and doing a dissection! (Grades K-6)

Build It!
Triumph over a variety of engineering challenges. Engage the imagination from designing and creating boats, bridges, or marble coasters. More experienced builders may take on less structured “tinkering.” (Grades K-6)

Sherlock Science
Laugh and learn forensic science by using logic and technology to solve mysteries. Campers will learn to extract DNA and how to analyze samples from a crime scene. (Grades K-6)

Robotics 101
Campers will design and build fun models of machines and animals, experimenting with everything from mechanics to motors and sensors. From basic engineering skills to simple electronics, learn what makes a robot tick. Campers use our computer lab for techniques such as research, design, and presentation. Oldest campers will work with LEGO™ Mindstorms. (Grades K-6)

It’s Wild!
What’s so awesome about Earth? Find out as we explore volcanoes, magnets, critters, crystals, and loads of amazing things about our home planet. Campers get to explore Mother Earth up close and personal on a field excursion to a to-be-determined site. (Grades K-6)

Music City Science – Transit Adventures
ASC offers a one-of-a-kind summer camp experience designed to promote independence in young adolescents while taking advantage of Nashville’s cultural, business and academic landscapes. This specially designed program for youth combines leadership development, science education and environmental stewardship in one exceptional experience! Campers learn independence, gain confidence and put them into practice within our summer camp program.
Watch your child gain an independence and confidence you didn’t think possible over the course of one week. Specially designed for “tweens,” campers plan, pick and go to town—literally—every single day. Transit Campers start each day at ASC to plan a route, choose the day’s team leader, then head out on MTA buses to explore the sights and sounds of Music City USA. This program is an excellent opportunity to develop and demonstrate leadership, responsibility and independent decision-making—all valuable skills for academic and personal success. (Grades 7-9)

AGE GROUPS
Campers will be divided into groups according to grades. Those who have completed 6th, 7th or 8th grade may register for the Music City Science program. All other camp themes are appropriate for campers entering K-6th grades.
STAFF
The ScienceQuest camp staff includes a dedicated group of certified teachers and college students with an interest in education and/or science. Counselors are supported by ASC science educators, volunteers and interns.

WHAT ARE THE AGES OF CAMPERS?
We base our groups on the grade your child will attend in the fall. Our campers start at age 5 going into Kindergarten in the fall and go up to rising 9th graders.
CAN YOU EXTEND THE CAMP HOURS?
Yes, extended care is available from 7:45 to 9:00 a.m. and from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m.
WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS TO MISS A DAY OF CAMP?
If you have to cancel, please notify the Center in writing as early as possible or by a phone conversation with the Reservation Office staff at (615) 862-5177.
WHAT IS ASC’S BEHAVIOR POLICY?
Adventure Science Center is committed to providing a safe, fun and supervised environment for all campers. Camp enrollment is limited so that campers have the best experience possible. ASC is one of Nashville’s most popular destinations for schools and families. Your cooperation and help are needed to make sure all visitors have an enjoyable learning experience.
Confirmation materials will include a Code of Conduct for families to review together prior to camp. All visitors, including campers, are expected to demonstrate appropriate behavior at all times. Shouting, running and disruptive behavior within our facility are not welcome and will not be allowed. If a camper continues to have difficulty adapting to the camp program, ASC reserves the right to cancel that individual’s camp session with no refund.
WHAT IF A CAMPER HAS SPECIAL NEEDS?
ASC makes every attempt to serve campers who require special attention or consideration. To enroll a camper with special needs, contact the Camp Coordinator (615-401-5074) to set up a meeting to evaluate program suitability for the child. Please note that ASC is not a special needs camp, and there may be some needs that are beyond the Science Center’s capabilities.
If you have to cancel, please notify the Center in writing as early as possible or by a phone conversation with the Reservation Office staff at (615) 862-5177. Read the policies below for details concerning refunds, which are based on the amount of notice given. There are no exceptions. Extended Care is considered a separate fee and is refunded 100 percent if you cancel prior to the first day of camp.
14+ Days’ Notice: We can apply your fee to a new date (depending on availability) or we will refund your fee, minus a $25 processing fee.
7+ Days’ Notice: We can apply your fee to a new date (depending on availability) or we will refund 50% of your fee, minus a $25 processing fee.
Less Than 7 Days’ Notice: The fee is non-refundable.
Daily Camps / ScienceQuest Greatest Hits!: A three-day notice is required to make changes. If you cancel no later than three days prior, your fee may be refunded or transferred to a new date. After that time, all fees are non-refundable.
WHAT TO BRING
- Campers move around a lot, and we will even go outside when the weather allows. It’s a good idea to dress in weather appropriate clothes that you don’t mind getting messy.
- ASC varies in temperature so bring an extra covering like a shirt or sweatshirt.
- Campers are asked to leave extra money at home or in the car.
- Please leave toys, games, ipods, cell phones and all other electronics at home.
LUNCHES AND SNACKS
- Pack a lunch, snack and beverage every day.
- Write the camper’s name on the lunch bag.
- There are no refrigerators, vending machines, or microwaves at camp.
- We do not allow hard candy or gum in camps.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
PARKING:
Park in the upper lot and escort your camper inside to check-in with the camp staff. Please do not drop children off, they must be escorted in by an adult.
CHECK IN PROCEDURE
Early Care check-in is 7:45 am. Regular check-in is 8:45 am. Any camper arriving before 8:45 must be signed into Early Care or have a parent stay with them in the center until 8:45.
Enter through the front main doors. On Mondays, we will verify your contact information and get any missing information about the camper.
CHECK OUT PROCEDURE AT 4 PM.
Parents will enter lobby and will be directed where to find their camper.
A n authorized adult with photo ID will be allowed to sign the child out.
Campers collect all belongings and lunchboxes.
CAMPERS STAYING FOR LATE CARE
At 4 p.m., campers that have registered for Late Care will move on to their designated location. Late Care campers are supervised by a camp staff person and will explore the center or participate in supervised activities during this time.
LATE CARE PICK-UP FROM 4:15 TO 5:15 PM:
Go to the front desk and explain that you are picking up your child from camp. The front desk staff will direct you to the appropriate location.
All Campers should be checked out by 5:15 p.m. All parents who pick up their camper after 5:15 will pay $2 for every minute after.
LATE ARRIVAL OF CAMPER
Please do your best to arrive at camp at the correct time. Arriving late may cause your child to miss an important activity.
EARLY CHECK-OUT OF CAMPER
If you know in advance that you will need to pick up a camper before camp ends, please let us know that morning so that you may fill out an Early Pick-up Form. Make sure your camper is aware of the change. When you arrive to pick the camper up, please go to the front desk and they will notify camp staff.
PICK-UP BY ANOTHER ADULT
We must have notification for any person picking up your child besides a legal guardian. Please make sure your child is aware of the change.
CAMPERS TAKING MEDICINE
ASC prefers that all medicines be administered at home before the camper arrives at camp. If medicine during lunch is necessary, the child must check his/her medicine in each morning. Campers are not allowed to hold onto their own medicines. If your child needs to take medication during the day, please fill out a Medication/Allergy form on or before the first day of camp. Please state the time the child takes the medication. Medicine will not be accepted if it is not in the original packaging.
Staff will make every effort to help children with medicine but ultimately it is the child’s responsibility to make sure the medicine is taken at the appropriate time.
CAMPERS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
We will make every attempt to serve campers who require special attention or consideration. If you are interested in enrolling a child with special needs, please contact the Camp Coordinator (615-401-5074) to set up a meeting to evaluate our program’s suitability for your child. As we are not a special needs camp, there may be some needs that we are unable to meet. We have a policy not to accept campers whose needs are beyond our training or capabilities.
If your child has a special need or a life threatening allergy, please contact the camp director to discuss their needs before the camper’s first day. We want to prepare the staff and teachers in advance so that we can make your child’s camp experience the best and safest it can be. Please remind us of any special needs each year as we serve
hundreds of campers every year.
ABSENCE POLICY
Camp fees are not refundable for absences during the camp week nor are they transferable to another date.
POLICY FOR FAMILIES THAT WANT TO VISIT THE CENTER
Family members pay the regular admission rate to enter the Center. During the week that the camper is
attending camp, he or she does not have to pay to explore the center. Children must be accompanied by an adult to be in the Center. ASC members do not have to pay admission rates but must go to the front desk and show membership cards to enter the Center after camps conclude.
CODE OF CONDUCT
Each week, teachers and staff go over the procedures, structure, and behavior expectations of camp with every group. We have high expectations for behavior due to the hands-on nature of camp. Minor behavior problems are addressed by the counselor and camp staff. If behavior problems persist, we will ask for a conference between the child, parent and counselor. If a camper’s behavior continues to disrupt the activities and progress of the camp, we reserve the right to cancel the registration and remove the child from the camp. No refund is given for removal of a camper from camp.
